Can we really be this lucky to be doing this?

Roncesvalles to Lintzoain Day 3 There are so many days to catch up on that I need to give a flavour of the days rather than a full account. I'm guessing if you are reading this you will know walking pretty much happens most of the day, so I don't need to focus on that! However, some of the interesting stuff we see and the interactions we have are worth noting, especially as I was not so keen on chatting to lots of others, we seem to have got the mix right at the moment. The other thing we seem to have pretty much spot on was the packing; we aren't noticing our back packs at all the weight is just right and the rotation of clothes and washing is working well for us. Three lots of underwear can go a long way!  Setting out this morning it was raining so we got a chance to test our coats and rain covers for our packs, again a good thing for us as it means we aren't carrying them unnecessarily. Everything you carry has to have a purpose, s...

Do you want a lift?

Valcarlos to Roncesvalles  Day 2 This was going to be a very hard trek, even without injuries, but I was determined to try it, so the offer of a lift was not even considered, although it was really kind of Alejandra. Setting off was exciting as I realised that although I hurt it wasn't going to stop me from walking, or at least trying. There were a few other pilgrims at this time, having passed no one yesterday we kept overtaking a German couple and them us; wishing each other Buen Camino as we passed. This is the greeting used, and at first, it felt a little contrived, but we soon fell into it. We were pleased to have chosen this route as the low clouds at this stage meant no real views  and people we met later saw nothing at the top of their climb; our serious climb came at the end of our stage and it came with a vengeance, but the views along the river that acted as our guide were wonderful; we didn't feel cheated. This walk tested...

¡Buen Camino!

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Valcarlos - France into Spain The day has finally arrived! The planning, during every walk in the UK, has become a reality... we are now able to fulfil a long held dream and attempt the challenge that we gave up work to do. This trip has been fraught with set backs and some of which may still prevent us from completing the whole journey, but we are taking it one step at a time. Saint Jean Pied de Port is the French starting point and where we stayed for the night before our departure.  We didn't sleep well because of heat, a tiny, hard bed and I guess, excitement. We were late setting off as we also had to sort out Daisy; we have left her in France! Pilgrims queueing for credentials and sellos- the passport and stamps to show the stops along The Way. View from our first night at Zazpiak Bat. Packs ready, and not as heavy as I feared, we are on our Way. The day's walk tested my knee and hip bu...
